Spring Sports beginning at Menominee High School

Menominee LogoSpring sports are starting to commence at Menominee High School. The athletic season is about to begin for many high school teams. Boys track, tennis, and golf start this week. According to Maroons Tennis Captain, Senior Levi Kempka, “This season looks promising as the team starts to shape up.” In addition, girls track, softball, and golf teams are also getting underway. Sophomore golfer Olivia Badker explains, “the team has many returning golfers this year, as well as a few new faces.” (Thanks to our Menominee High School Student Correspondent Coleton Kotecki for this story.)

Menominee County Restarts Administrator Search

Menominee County CourthouseMenominee County is ready to re-advertise for a new county administrator.

Tuesday evening, the Menominee County Board approved the new job description for the administrator, and agreed to re-advertise for the position. Menominee County Board Chair Charlie Meintz says the new job description looks at the position in a more analytic way. The candidates that recently applied for the Menominee County Administrator position will also be informed that they may now re-apply. Meintz says Menominee County will start looking for its new administrator through local and statewide sources. Commissioner Meintz says the Menominee County Board will still have to discuss the timeline for applicants and how the county will conduct the interviews.

Deferred Prosecution For Fatal 2015 Crash

A woman charged in a fatal 2015 Oconto County car crash is entering a deferred prosecution agreement. That means 84-year old Thelma R. Yashinsky of Lena will not face charges if she adheres to the terms in the agreement. Yashinsky was allegedly behind the wheel and failed to stop at a stop sign at County Road-I and Highway 22 in the Town of Oconto Falls in October of 2015. Her vehicle was struck by a van, resulting in the three deaths, including her husband’s. Yashinsky had faced five charges, including three-felony counts of Homicide by Negligent Use of a Vehicle. As part of the deferred prosecution agreement, Yashinsky will not be allowed to drive outside of a two-mile radius from her home for three-years.

Wisconsin Deer Management Meeting Interview

Marinette County DeerIf you’re passionate about deer management in Marinette County, you’ll want to attend tonight’s meeting.
The Wisconsin County Deer Advisory Council is holding their public meeting tonight at the Crivitz Village Hall in Crivitz from 7pm until 9pm. The DNR holds these meetings every Spring throughout Wisconsin. Big Game Ecologist for the Wisconsin DNR, Kevin Wallenfang says the council will be covering various topics this evening. Wallenfang says the meetings were specifically setup for the public to have a greater voice in deer management within their county.
