The Program that helps heat and cool homes just passed the federal budget, for now.

The Home Energy Assistance Program that helps hundreds of thousands of low-income families across the U.S. pay their heating and cooling bills is saved from elimination for this year. In March, President Donald Trump proposed cutting around 10 percent from the LIHEAP (LYE’-heep) budget. He also proposed to totally eliminating the program for the federal budget that begins October 1st which would include the 20-17 - 20-18 heating season. Congress restored funding for this year. However, the debate about funding the program for next year won’t be known until later this year.
