SHOP WITH A COP

There were plenty of smiles at Pine tree Mall Saturday morning as the 17th annual Shop with Cop paired local law enforcement officers and local disadvantaged children for Christmas shopping spree.  About thirty-five children were paired with members of the Menominee and Marinette Police Departments, Sheriff’s Departments and Auxiliaries, and Michigan State Police. After a breakfast together, the Cops and Kids headed to the stores in the Mall to buy gifts for the kid’s families.  Volunteers were on hand to wrap the presents before the kids headed home.

Sergeant Brian Helfert of the Menominee County Sheriff’s Department is a veteran of many Shop with a Cop events, says the event gives Law Enforcement an opportunity develop a positive relationship with the kids…

Contributions from area businesses and fundraisers supply the shopping allowances for the kids. Shop with a Cop is organized by Bay Cities Multimedia Center.
