Former Manitowoc Doc Acquitted Of Over-Prescribing Narcotics

(Green Bay, WI)  --  A federal jury has acquitted a former Manitowoc doctor of charges he violated the Controlled Substance Act.  Prosecutors accused Doctor Charles Szyman of over-prescribing narcotic pain relievers.  Assistant U-S Attorney Matthew Jacobs told the court Szyman failed to protect patients when he prescribed increasing doses of the painkillers while not knowing the source of their pain -- or properly monitoring the way they were using the drugs.  The legal troubles aren't over for the doctor because he still faces a wrongful death lawsuit.
