The U.S. Navy will not disclose costs for a Marinette Marine built ship.

The Trump administration Thursday proposed its plans to ramp up defense spending to expand the U.S. Navy’s armada but the long-term future of the combat shipbuilding program at Marinette Marine could hinge on cost-efficiency and performance of the Littoral Combat Ships. The Marinette built USS Milwaukee, USS Freedom, and the Alabama built USS Jackson have suffered multiple setbacks with repairs estimated in the millions of dollars, but the Navy says it believes in the small, fast vessels. Currently, nine ships are in production at Marinette Marine and work is expected to last through 2021.
