The City of Marinette makes their decision regarding Aquila Resources proposed sulfide mine with two resolutions.

The City of Marinette passes a resolution opposing Aquila Resources proposed sulfide mine in a special council meeting last night with a vote of six to two...but it didn’t end there. Council member Jason Flatt wanted to amend the newly passed resolution to include verbiage to protect the sacred grounds of the Menominee Nation Tribe. Flatt says it’s easy to acknowledge the environmental and economic impact of the mine.



Flatt says the mine seems to be a slam-dunk issue.


After consulting with the City Attorney and referring to the City Bylaws the City of Marinette amended their resolution to include verbiage in a vote of six to two.

Also, a second resolution passes urging legislation to allow input from adjacent governmental entities on the regulation of Sulfide Mining along boundary waters between Michigan and Wisconsin.

One of Wisconsin’s 72 Counties joins Marinette County in opposing the Back Forty Mine.

The Brown County Board voted against the proposed sulfide mine with a vote of 21 to zero with two abstentions and three absences. Next week Tuesday, June 27th at nine a.m. the Door County Board of Supervisors will be addressing the Back Forty Mine.
