One of Wisconsin’s 72 Counties joins Marinette County in opposing the Back Forty Mine.

 District 5 Supervisor Staush  Gruszynski says in Wisconsin you have to show the one of the mines hasn’t polluted in the past ten years.l supervisor staush gruszynski 02


The Brown County Board voted against the proposed sulfide mine with a vote of 21 to zero with two abstentions and three absences. Next week Tuesday, June 27th at nine a.m. the Door County Board of Supervisors will be addressing the Back Forty Mine.

It’s another full house at the City of Menominee Council Meeting opposing the Back Forty Mine.

menominee nationAt last night’s City of Menominee City Council Meeting those in opposition of the back forty mine came to speak. Menominee Nation Tribal Chairman Gary BeSaw says he wanted to make the council aware of his intentions.



Aquila Resources Communications Manager Robin Quigley says she attended the meeting to listen and to learn.

Marinette County Emergency Management has issued a River Safety Alert for Marinette County…

Due to the heavy amount of rainfall over the last few weeks, especially the severe storms affecting the area since Sunday, Marinette County is experiencing minor flooding on the Peshtigo River in Porterfield and the Menominee River in McAllister.

Potato Rapids Dam on the Peshtigo River north of the City of Peshtigo has reached peak flow. Marinette County Parks Department is pulling docks from boat launches on the Menominee River affected by the high flow and the boat launches are open at this time. The City of Marinette is holding a special City Council on Monday, June 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the City of Marinette Common Council Chambers located at City Hall at 1905 Hall Ave.

 

Discussion and possible action regarding the proposed resolution opposing the Aquila Resources Back Forty Proposed Mine is the only agenda item and citizens who wish to attend and comment will be allowed five minutes on this agenda item only.
