The Sturgeon Bay Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance of a stolen item.

On the evening of May 17th a 12-foot Silver Triton brand utility trailer with a ramp on the back was stolen. The trailer is valued at approximately four-thousand-dollars and the trailer was specially made with an extended two-foot front hitch. UW Tuition Will Stay Frozen, Not Cut…

It appears that tuition for in-state residents at the University of Wisconsin will stay frozen for two more years, instead of being cut by five-percent in that second year. The Republican chairs of the Joint Finance Committee said Thursday the panel would reject Governor Scott Walker's proposed tuition cut and 35-million dollars in extra spending to make up for the lost revenue. A number of Republicans opposed the tuition cut, with the Assembly Speaker saying it would be better to dole out more financial aid to students who need it. Finance chairs John Nygren and Alberta Darling also say that their panel will go along with making U-W schools follow performance benchmarks to get part of a 42-million-dollar pot for state aid. But instead of following the governor's specific benchmarks, the panel would name four areas, and the U-W Regents would lay out the details for meeting them.

Menominee Committee of the Whole will be held tonight...Public Comment is allowed.

What was planned as a joint meeting of the Menominee and Marinette City Councils to hear information regarding the proposed Sulfide Mine will now just be a Committee of the Whole meeting of the Menominee City Council.

The meeting will remain at the Menominee High School Lecture Hall beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Al Gedics, a UW LaCrosse sociology professor will be speaking at tonight's meeting regarding the Back Forty Mine.

Public Comment is limited to three (3) minutes on the agenda item.

A Michigan Community Organization receives 30-thousand-dollars in improvement grants.

MSHDA Awarded 400-hundred-thousand dollars in neighborhood enhancement grants last week to Eleven communities around Michigan who will benefit from the Neighborhood Enhancement Program. The grant will create high-impact activities that are tied to enhancing and stabilizing the area. The Menominee- Delta-Schoolcraft Community Action Agency is receiving 30-thousand-dollars to be used for porch improvements, exterior paint, windows, doors, minor repairs, and accessibility ramps.

The 12th Annual Ride of Silence is taking place tonight.

The ride begins at the Band Shell at Marina Park in Menominee at 7pm. The purpose of the ride is to honor those who have been injured or killed in car – bicycle accidents and to raise awareness that bicyclists share the roads with motorists.

Representative Bill St. Martin says anyone who would like join the ride is welcome and can join the group at the Marina Park Bandshell tonight at 7pm. If you have questions you can call 906-863-93-61 for more information.

The Iron Mountain Police Department is seeking information for a man wanted on a felony warrant for domestic violence.

Police are looking for Benjamin Martinez, 34. He’s wanted on charges of aggravated domestic violence, domestic violence – second offense, and habitual offender – fourth notice.

According to the police department, the crimes Martinez is wanted on occurred in September of 2016. He is still believed to be in the Iron Mountain area.

You can HELP Stamp Out Hunger in OUR Communities!

stamp out hungerIf you’ve you checked your mailbox this week there’s a good chance that you’ve received a blue bag from your letter carrier and that means it’s the 25th annual National Letter Carrier Food Drive that is being held tomorrow, Saturday, May 13thIn 20-16, Marinette and Menominee had over 13-thousand visits made to local food pantries.

The Stamp Out Hunger campaign is one of the largest fundraisers in our community that supplies local food pantries with close to 15-thousand pounds of non-perishable food items.

If you would like to participate you simply need to leave your blue bag or any other bag with non-perishable food items by your mailbox for your letter carrier to pick-up.

Developing Story -- Menominee Schools on Lockdown.

Menominee Schools are on a Yellow Alert. Doors are secure and students and staff cannot leave campus. Schools in Menominee to Manistique, Michigan are on lockdown. 

According to WLUC, the Delta County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible threat that was made to a local gun shop that threatened a school shooting. Precautions were put into place after Escanaba Public Safety was made aware of an unusual phone call to a local business.

Public Safety says  no further information will be released at this time.

This is a developing story. Bay Cities Radio News will have the latest information as it becomes available.

Flying the friendly skies could be no more with the Menominee County Airport.

Big decisions are ahead of the Menominee County Board after last night’s board meeting when commissioner Larry Schei addressed the board with financial documentation and what the future direction of the airport really means for the tax payers in the community.

Schei says, once they lost their sponsorship all grandfathering for the airport through the F-A-A and M-DOT AERO was lost.

Schei says there’s no economic development dollars being budgeted for the airport.


The County Board must decide and vote whether or not they want to continue operating as a County Airport. But first, they must hold a special board meeting for public input which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23rd at 5 p.m. at the Menominee County Courthouse.

Populations are down at the Marinette County Jail.

marinette county sheriffs departmentOver the last month, the Marinette County Jail has seen a decrease in the number of inmates in the County Jail due to various factors and at yesterday’s Marinette County’s Law Enforcement Committee Update the Committee heard an updated from Tom Buorque from the Sheriff’s Department that there has been a lot of releases and resolved cases this year.



Bourque says the jail is on pace to increase this year.



Currently, there are 107 inmates lodged in the Marinette County jail and so far, this year, there has been 636 Bookings and 643 releases at the Marinette County Jail.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Burning and Fire Activity, burning is NOT allowed today. Therefore, burning in barrels, debris piles, and grass or wooded areas with your annual permit is prohibited. Campfires, though strongly discouraged, are permitted if used solely for cooking or warming purposes, but use extreme caution. The Program that helps heat and cool homes just passed the federal budget, for now.

The Home Energy Assistance Program that helps hundreds of thousands of low-income families across the U.S. pay their heating and cooling bills is saved from elimination for this year. In March, President Donald Trump proposed cutting around 10 percent from the LIHEAP (LYE’-heep) budget. He also proposed to totally eliminating the program for the federal budget that begins October 1st which would include the 20-17 - 20-18 heating season. Congress restored funding for this year. However, the debate about funding the program for next year won’t be known until later this year.

WPS Foundation is offering grants to assist first responders in meeting safety needs.

Bay Cities Multi Media First RespondersTo show support for those who work to uphold public safety, the WPS Foundation is encouraging all emergency response agencies in northeastern and north central Wisconsin to apply for the “Safety – It’s Worth the Energy” grant this spring.

Grant applications are being accepted now through June 30th. In order to be eligible to receive the grant, emergency response agencies must demonstrate the equipment or training they wish to acquire is part of a well-detailed effort to improve public safety.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is taking applications for bear and elk hunting licenses.

Bay Cities Multi Media Brown Bear

The application period runs through June 1. A total of 200 elk and 7,140 bear licenses will be available for this year's seasons. Hunters can apply online, or at any authorized license agent or DNR Customer Service Center. Applications cost five-dollars.

A base license is not required to purchase an application. Only Michigan residents are eligible to apply for an elk license. Bear licenses are available for both residents and nonresidents. To learn more visit www.michigan.gov/dnr.

Residents of Menominee construction will cause water shut offs in select areas.

The City of Menominee would like to remind residents that due to the construction on 14th avenue, water will be turned off from 7am until 4pm today in the following locations: 14th Avenue from 21st Street to West Drive, 22nd Street from 14th Avenue to 15th Avenue, and 25th Street from 15th Street to 10th Avenue.

Volunteers are needed for the Community Waterfront Cleanup.

The Menominee River Citizens Advisory Committee is hosting a cleanup of the community’s waterfront Saturday, May 6th and in order to make it a success they are asking for the community for their help. Committee Co-Chair, Mark Erickson says the cleanup has been on-going for the past 35 years.


Erickson says Nest Egg Marine is again hosting this event.

Check in is at 9am at Nest Egg Marine located at 300 Wells Street in Marinette with clean-up to begin at 9:30am. Supplies will be included as well as a pizza lunch for all volunteers provided by the M&M Great Lakes Sport Fishermen.
