Happy Pi Day!

Einstein PI Day

What is Pi Day?

It's celebrated on March 14th, in honor of the number itself, which is rounded up to about 3.14159.

Pi Numbers

If you're bad a math, like me, what is Pi?

Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. It's rounded up because the actual ratio has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond the decimal point (yikes, that's a lot of numbers). The symbol for Pi (π) was first used in 1737 by Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler.

Anyone else really wanting some Pi(e) right now?

We have to find a better way!

Tourism LogoWe have to find a better way! It was heard many times throughout this week’s Marinette County Board meeting.
Only this time it was expressed by Interim County Administrator, John Lefebvre, as he spoke about the Carlson – Dettman Wage Study. Currently, the County is about three weeks behind schedule with the study but March will more than make up for the delay, when the County Board decides on a step or merit pay structure for its employees. Lefebvre says, currently the county is based on a merit pay structure but it isn’t being utilized.

LeFebvre says, he wants the county board members to understand that he does not want to use the existing investments to pay salaries.

During this time, all department heads will be reviewing the hierarchy of their staff and Interim Administrator Lefebvre and Human Resources will be looking at the County as a whole. A Carlson – Dettman representative will also be on hand to assist and address any pay structure concerns.

Marinette County Sheriff gives Annual Report

We can do better is the core statement made by the Marinette County Sheriff in his annual report to the Marinette County Board.

The loss of good employees, employee wages, and an overpopulated county jail are at the forefront of Marinette County Sheriff, Jerry Sauve’s, concerns. Sauve says they are taking extreme measures in making sure that other options are being utilized, other than sending individuals directly to jail, such as drug court, sober link, and electronic monitoring.

Sheriff Sauve

While the jail is overcrowded, Sheriff Sauve says, he’s facing a very serious reality and that’s with the staffing of the facility.
Sheriff Sauve

Sauve goes on to say that the County needs to compensate the employees fairly and there needs to be some sort of recruitment set in place to obtain employees and not lose them to other counties once they’ve got some time on the job in Marinette County.

A Marinette County Propane Company is allegedly in violation of Wisconsin Consumer Protection Laws.

consumers gas
During the polar vortex winter of 20-13 and 20-14, Customers Gas Service of Amberg, Wisconsin, unfairly charged consumers above their contracted price and failed to supply their consumers with their propane needs. Customers Gas sold propane through three different contracts; pre-buy, budget, and routed/scheduled delivery. Customer’s pre-buy and budget contracts stated that their consumers would get a set amount of propane at a secured price through one of two contracts. Pre-Buy customers paid in full for their propane at the time of contracting. However, Customers Gas did not secure the necessary amount of propane to perform its pre-buy and budget contracts. Ultimately, Customers gas sold greater amounts of propane than it was able to deliver to its pre-buy customers for the 20-13 and 20-14 heating season. Customers Gas is currently facing two violations, Count One is for the unfair billing for consumer goods and services and count two is for fraudulent representations. A court date has not yet been announced.
