LaFave says what’s a good way to get a politician in Lansing to care about an Upper Peninsula problem? Make them pay for it!

LaFave says his colleagues will say they can’t afford it.

Currently, there’s a tax loophole that big box stores have been using to have their stores appraised as if they were dark and vacant. LaFave says the state should take ownership of the problem they’ve been unable to address. The bill is still about two weeks away from being introduced in the house.

Currently, Aquila Resources is seeking permits for the open pit sulfide mine that would use cyanide to extract and process ore on site.
